Steamed TilapiaIngredients:
Fresh, Whole Tilapia (gutted and scaled, but that should already be done for you)
Ginger
Green Onion
Soy Sauce
Vegetable Oil
Sugar
Hardware:
Whatever you need to steam stuff, I did something like this. The important part is that your water vessel is larger than your plate and that the plate is elevated and not touching the water. Oh yeah, make sure it has a lid.
Two plates big enough to hold all your tilapia and they don't overlap. It's okay if the tail is hanging out.
A large spatula
Instructions:
1. Boil your water
2. Chop your ginger and green onion in small pieces.
3. In the cavity where the Tilapia's guts used to be, stuff that with a couple pieces of Ginger and Green onion.
4. Place the Tilapia on a plate, don't overlap them.
5. Place the remaining Ginger and Green Onion ontop of and around the fish.
6. Pour about 3 tablespoons of Soy Sauce and 1 Tablespoon of Vegetable Oil on the Tilapia.
7. Place the plate in your Steam Vessel and turn down the heat to Medium Low and steam for about 15 minutes. Use a chop stick to poke in the middle of the fish to make sure the flesh is white and done.
Notes;
-Okay, so your tilapia is done and looks delicious because you followed my recipe, but you can't get it out because the plate is hot and you're a noob. You could try using a towel or two as potholders, but nobody wants towel stuff all over their fish. So this is where the Second Plate and Large Spatula come in. Carefully move the Tilapia from the steaming plate onto the cool plate and use a spoon to transfer the juices.
-Trust me, you'll want those juice. I wish they bottled this juice so I could always have it to pour over white rice and get sent to Chinese Hell.
-Watch out for bones.
